Our third week in a row at Blue Bell Park has created a powerful sense of familiarity and direction to what was once just "a large out door space" for the children. Their ability to recognize land marks and follow trails that connect to the Wissahickon and back to base camp is really amazing. Probably the most special aspect of Blue Bell, besides the great dogs and owners we meet and re-meet each week! Is that we can make Fire in an actual fire place located in the pavilion. Joan has been making special trips to pick up fresh bread and cheese from the co-op to grill and make "cheesy bread" which has this amazing smokey taste from the fire. We took a hike this week and discovered a forest of invasive thorny stick plants that grow straight out of the ground with very few branches. After some later research I found out the plants name is: Japanese Angelica Tree

We talked about the difference between native and invasive plant species and how these foreign plants can have a devastating and long lasting impact on natural spaces. The kids figured out a path out of the thorny forest by climbing up a fallen log to a connecting trail.
